Spain Flag Colors

The three bars are laid out vertically with the red band atop, then a yellow band in the middle, and another red band below. The width of this middle band is double the size of each outer one. 

Red symbolizes the three quarters that tried to restore the Bourbon dynasty; yellow represents its loyalty to the Catholic Church, and how it stood with the cardinal; and blue represents Castile, as Castile and Leon were united by Fernando III in 1230.

From its origin, red has always been one of Spain's most important colors. 

Currently, the Spanish National Flag consists of three horizontal bands that are colored red, yellow and red. 

The current Spanish flag was adopted in 1981, however, it is based on an older flag that was used during the first period of civil flying of Spain after the country's independence from its former monarchic form of government.
