History of Coin (old)

The first coins were made of electrum, a natural alloy of gold and silver found in the mineral deposits of Lydia, in Asia Minor. This naturally occurring alloy was very well suited for making coins, as it was both abundant and durable. The first coins were struck in Lydia around 600 BCE.

The Lydian coin, known as the starter, was made of electrum and weighed about 8 grams. It featured a lion's head on one side and a sunburst on the other.

The sunburst symbolized the authority of the king, while the lion represented strength and power. The Lydians were the first to use coins as a means of exchange, but they were not the only ones. Around the same time, coins began appearing in China and India.

These early coins were made of bronze or copper and were often cast in molds instead of being struck with dies.

The first coins struck with dies were made in Asia Minor around 520 BCE. These coins, known as Croeseids, featured a lion's head on one side and a bull's head on the other.

The Persians began minting their own coins around 500 BCE. The first Persian coins were made of gold and silver and featured a variety of different designs.

The Moai are monolithic human figures carved by the Rapa Nui people on Easter Island in eastern Polynesia between 1250 and 1500 CE. Nearly half of the approximately 887 moai erected on the island were destroyed in the 20th century due to civil war, European colonization, and iconoclasm.

The Moai are carved in the likeness of human faces with prominent noses and long earlobes and stand upright with their hands clasped in front of them.

The statues are all different sizes, with the tallest one being over 33 feet (10 m) high and the shortest only about 3 feet (1 m) tall. Most of them are carved from a type of soft volcanic rock called tuff, although some have been carved from other materials like wood or stone.

The statues were originally placed along the coast on stone platforms called ahu, which served as burial sites for important members of Rapa Nui society.

The Moai have been the subject of much controversy and speculation over the years. Some believe that they represent deceased ancestors who watch over and protect the living.

Others believe that they were meant to intimidate enemies or rival tribes. Whatever their original purpose, the Moai have become one of the most recognizable symbols of Easter Island and Polynesian culture.
