Blue (#003087) signifies Colombia's skies and seas, while red (#C8102E) represents the blood shed in the struggle for independence and the perseverance of the people.
These colors were designed by Francisco de Miranda in the early 1800s and are the joint inheritance of the flags of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. Inspired by Goethe's color theories, Miranda incorporated the warmth of yellow light, the serenity of blue and the exuberance of red.
