Each end of the five-pointed star represents the key classes of Vietnamese community: Scholars, farmers, workers, merchants and soldiers. The flag's story begins in the 1940s, and is shaped by the struggle for independence. It was used in the uprising against France and later was adopted as the national flag by Ho Chi Minh.
